Angelina Jolie joined by son Knox in rare red carpet appearance

Angelina Jolie’s latest red carpet outing was a family affair.

The 48-year-old walked arm in arm with her 16-year-old son Knox as she attended the Governors Awards at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles last night.

Jolie opted for an elegant, vintage gold floor-length dress, which she paired with a statement necklace and teardrop earrings. Meanwhile, Knox kept it classic in a black tuxedo.

It’s the first time in three years that Knox has attended an event with his family, having last walked the red carpet with his siblings – Maddox, 23, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twin sister Vivienne – to support his mother when she started in Marvel’s Eternals in 2021 (Knox’s 20-year-old brother Pax was not present for that particular outing).

However, Jolie has previously explained that Knox, who she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt, and his other siblings prefer the spotlight despite their A-List parents.

Jolie herself made a triumphant return to the red carpet at the 81st Venice Film Festival, where she attended the world premiere of her highly anticipated film, Mary. Directed by Pablo Larraín, the film is a biographical drama about the late opera singer Maria Callas – and features Jolie’s actual singing voice.

Speak with The Hollywood ReporterJolie explained that she felt deeply connected to the tragic figure. “I’m sure a lot will be read into this about our overlap as women, but what might not be the most obvious is that I’m not sure how comfortable either of us feel about being in the public eye. And there was a pressure behind the work that wasn’t just the joy of the work,” she told the outlet.

“And yet I love to create, she loves to sing, but sometimes there are all these other things that take away that joy and change the experience of that.

“It was quite tough what she went through. People were quite aggressive when she couldn’t be what they wanted her to be. They were very unkind, she carried a lot of trauma and she worked very, very hard. I really started to care about her and wanted that aspect of the story to be told.”
