Apple will unveil the iPhone 16 on Monday. Here’s what to expect.

Apple is expected to announce on Monday unveils its iPhone 16 models along with other new products, during a livestreamed event called “It’s Glowtime.” The latest generation of iPhones marks what one analyst called Apple’s “biggest upgrade cycle in its history.”

The event is scheduled for September 9 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time at the technology company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.

All eyes will be on Apple’s next iPhone line, all of which will be powered by Apple Intelligence, Apple’s response to the generative AI revolution. According to an announcement Apple made in June about the new AI feature, the feature will be integrated into iOS 18.

According to Apple, it’s integrated into apps like Mail and Notes and is designed to simplify everyday tasks like writing lists. “It uses the power of Apple chips to understand and create language and images, perform actions across apps, and use personal context to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks.”

Apple Intelligence is also expected to make the phones’ virtual assistant Siri work better, but perhaps not until next year. As reported by Bloomberg, the “full suite of Apple Intelligence features” will be made available “via multiple updates to iOS 18 in late 2024 and the first half of 2025.”

“The iPhone 16 launch is all about Apple Intelligence and unleashing the AI revolution for consumers in Cupertino,” Wedbush Securities technology analyst Dan Ives said in a research note.

He expects Apple’s move will force developers to build AI-powered apps to keep up with the “AI tidal wave” fueled by the iPhone 16.

Analysts believe that Apple Intelligence should be discreetly incorporated into the phones’ software, at least from a consumer perspective.

“The goal is for AI to be embedded behind the scenes and into all applications: invisible and intuitive,” analysts at CB Insights said in a research note. “For Apple, all roads lead back to the user experience.”

Here’s what else you need to know about the new iPhone.

iPhone Camera Tips and Tricks

Mega screen size

The latest and greatest iPhone models will get bigger screens, according to analysts who follow the company. The regular Pro model will get a larger display, up from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, according to Ives. The larger Pro Max display will grow from 6.7 to 6.9 inches.

New chip

The latest iPhone models will likely feature the new A18 and A18 Pro chips that power Apple Intelligence, making the devices run faster. The upgraded chips will also improve the phones’ battery life, which has been a pain point for many consumers, according to research reports.

Better camera

The phones’ cameras also feature improved technology, which Wedbush’s Ives called “a major selling point.”

Analysts at BofA Global Research expect a 48-megapixel camera with an ultra-wide lens, plus a new “capture” button that will give consumers more control and the ability to focus and zoom in on subjects.

Prices

Ives doesn’t expect major price increases, “as we don’t think Apple will lose any upgrades (and the move to AI) with a price increase.”

Currently, the iPhone 15 starts at $799, while the iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999. The iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199.

Customers typically have to wait at least a week after product unveilings to buy new tech. Analysts at BofA Global Research say that if the iPhone 16 ships on Sept. 20, the devices could be in customers’ hands by the end of the month.
