AR Rahman’s wife Saira has announced that she and the music maestro are parting ways. Sairas lawyer, Vandana Shahshared an official statement about their decision to part ways.
“After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has taken the difficult decision to divorce her husband, Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has discovered that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable chasm between them, a chasm that neither party believes they can bridge at this time. Ms. Saira emphasizes that she made this decision out of pain and agony. Ms. Saira requests privacy and public understanding during this challenging time as she navigates this difficult chapter of her life,” the statement said.

Rahman married Saira in 1995 through an arranged marriage. During a conversation with Simi Garewal on her talk show, Rahman said that his mother arranged the marriage as he did not have time to look for a bride himself. Rahman said, “To be honest, I didn’t have time to look for a bride. I was doing films including Rangeela in Bombay. But I knew this was the right time to get married. I was 29 and I said to my mother, ‘Find me a bride.'”
Rahman also said that he asked his mother to find him a “simple” woman who would not cause him much trouble, allowing him to focus on his music and hoping that she would inspire him. The two, who married in 1995, are parents of three children: KhatijaRaheema and Ameen.
On the work front, Rahman’s most recent project was Dhanush’s second film as director, Raayan. He will also appear in upcoming films like Chhaava, Thug Life, Gandhi Talks and several others in different languages.
