Arcane showrunner explains why it’s ending with season 2, while again hinting at future stories: “We’ve spent nine years on these eleven or so characters at this point”

Arcane season 2 is in full swing, but prepare for the end because the makers are definitely done and there will be no season 3.

Speak with Animation magazineshowrunner Christian Linke takes some time to reflect on how the League of Legends spin-off show got started: “We definitely started Arcane at a time when there wasn’t a lot of precedent for this approach,” he says. “People told us, ‘Hey, you can’t have 40-minute animated episodes; that’s insane.’ And I think there was just a dream of, “Well, we think you can do that.” I think the drama, the long pauses and silences between two characters are really things that are very unusual, at least in Western animation.”

It turns out he was right, as the show was a hit with fans of the game and people who had never heard of League of Legends. I envy the people who don’t know what pushing a bot lane means; I really do.

Looking ahead, director Pascal Charrue says: “We’ve spent nine years on these eleven or so characters at this point, so there’s also something about the desire to make sure we can tell the stories of other characters, which we’re also working on are.” really passionate about it.”

It’s unclear whether this means more characters within the League of Legends universe, or an entirely new source, but whatever the Arcane team ends up creating, I’m excited about it.

Nine years is a long time for any creative to spend on a project. Linke adds, “There are people who were single when they started Arcane and are now married with kids in school,” so for some it has truly been a lifetime.
