Not all magic is, well, magical. Just ask any Twitch streamer and YouTuber Kai Cenat, whose livestream took a dark turn Tuesday night when he appeared to hang Magician Max Major for all his 13 million followers to see.

Fortunately, Cenat did not actually hang Major, who calls himself a “mentalist,” that is, an artist who uses psychological techniques and deception to create the illusion of reading people’s minds. Rather, Major himself orchestrated the prank, seemingly as a way to get back at Cenat for “pushing” and “challenging” him in previous encounters.

Did Kai Cenat hang up on someone during the livestream?

No. But he did to appear to hang someone on livestream, and that someone was Magician Max Major, who competed on season 15 of America has talent.

When Cenat was asked to pull one of the two ropes, he went with the rope with the red handle, causing a shirtless major to fall with his head in a noose.

The entire event was captured live, where spectators could be heard screaming and Cenat himself panicking. (Mage Max had not identified himself to the wider public, but it appears Cenat knew who he was dealing with.)

Magician Max Major performed an elaborate hanging prank on Kai Cenat’s livestream, which has more than 13 million subscribers, making it appear as if Cenat had yanked him from a rope.

Cenat was visibly confused and upset as Major’s body fell. Although Major was the mastermind behind the stunt, Cenat was criticized for his reaction to the shocking moment, saying: “I might get banned. Is he good?’

What did magician Max Major say about his hanging joke?

Magician Max took to YouTube to explain himself… sort of.

“At the beginning of my performance, I said tonight was all about choices, and not just about the choices you made tonight; the choices you’ve made since the day we met,” he said.

The video then cuts to footage of Cenat saying he wants to catch Major “in his lies.”

Major added: “You know, from the first time we met, you pushed me, you challenged me, you wanted to see me fail. And I thought I’d give you exactly what you asked for tonight. You see, you thought the game was for me to influence you to make the right choice, when all along I was planning to influence you to make the wrong choice, and I knew you would choose the red lever. You see, even when you play a game of chance, you have to remember who you are playing against. Because I decide who wins or loses.”

TL;DR: It appears Major staged his fake hanging to get back at Cenat for a perceived slight from their past.

Cenat made his disappointment clear, though he urged his followers to move on.

“Let them go! He wants n****s to look…we just look like black people looking crazy,” he said.

“It’s not worth it, brother. We’re yelling at him, we just look like a whole bunch of black n****s looking crazy. So, let God handle that, brother.”
