Ariana Grande and Kristin Chenoweth agree that Glinda seems a little gay

In big news for the most annoying people you know Former theater star Ariana Grande believes Glinda the Good Witch “might be a little closeted.”

The Bad star made the confession during a stop by her and co-star Cynthia Erivo continued reign of terror in the public theater press tour on Thursday. During an interview with LGBTQ+ publication Gay Times, the host initially referred to Glinda as an “ally.” Grande initially let that description slide, but when the interviewer asked a separate question about the ship known as “Gelphie” (Glinda and Elphaba, obvs), Grande chimed in with her belief that the Good Witch may be more than just an enthusiastic supporter.

Grande said the two “provide such a safe space for each other, and that’s what all relationships should be.”

“So, you know, whether it’s romantic or platonic – Glinda might be a little closeted – but if there ever was a moment, you never know. Give it some time,” she continued.

If you are unknown, Bad is actually an enemies-to-lovers musical adapted from a book of the same name, and the show’s version of Glinda is presented as a high femme icon. There’s a whole song at the beginning of the musical where the two main characters sing along with an entire ensemble about how much they hate each other with incredibly homoerotic undertones. (It captures the classic dynamic where you’re locked in and develop some kind of unexpected feeling toward someone of the same sex, and you conclude that it must be hate and not lust. It’s literally called, ‘What is this feeling.’ “) And… they were roommates.

Erivo, meanwhile, told Gay Times that Glinda and Elphaba “have a real relationship, it’s true love, and that’s probably why people ship it, because what they build with each other is an unbreakable bond.”

Additionally, Kristin Chenoweth, the actor who played the role of Glinda in the original Broadway production of Badreplied to a post about Grande’s comment that the witch might be in the closet, writing, “That’s what I thought a long time ago too….” I mean, the material is there! A film adaptation of Bad in which the actors openly acknowledge the homoerotic subtext of the musical? What a time to be alive.

Bad is now in theaters across the US
