Baltimore Ravens vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Predictions, Picks, Odds

play

The Kansas City Chiefs (0-0) begin their title defense with a rematch for the AFC championship against the Baltimore Ravens.

The reigning Super Bowl champions are bringing back stars like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and more, while the Lamar Jackson-led Ravens are out for revenge. Can the Ravens break through the Chiefs’ dynasty this season and bring the Lombardi Trophy to Baltimore? Or will Kansas City continue to struggle in the AFC in 2024?

The Ravens lost 17-10 in the last meeting between the teams that gave the Chiefs a ticket to another Super Bowl, but Baltimore is using the bitterness over that loss to fuel its 2024 campaign. Meanwhile, the Chiefs continue to be in the offseason headlines for a variety of reasons; are they ready to contend when the new season begins?

The season is long, but it all starts when these titans face off on Thursday.

Lorenzo Reyes: Ravens 23, Chiefs 17

Baltimore suffered some offseason losses on defense, but after a disappointing playoff exit — at the hands of Kansas City — I expect the Ravens to learn from their mistakes and rely on the rushing game. Plus, with the commotion of the kickoff game and the commemoration of their back-to-back Super Bowl titles, the Chiefs may be off to a slow start.

Tyler Dragon: Chiefs 24, Ravens 23

The Chiefs begin their quest to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowl championships. Kansas City lost their opening game last year after raising the Super Bowl 57 banner. They won’t suffer the same fate in the 2024 kickoff game, even if Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have revenge on their minds after last year’s AFC championship game. The Ravens will need a game or two to get their offense under control with the addition of Derrick Henry. Additionally, Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City’s passing attack look to be more explosive this year with the return of JuJu Smith-Schuster and rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy.

Safid Deen: Ravens 26, Chiefs 23

Baltimore may not be able to avenge what was at stake in last season’s AFC title game, but a win is needed to upset Kansas City’s title defense. Derrick Henry should have a steady workload to take the pressure off Lamar Jackson and the Ravens, while Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense will have limited opportunities to hurt them Thursday night. Justin Tucker wins it for the Ravens.

Richard Morin: Ravens 23, Chiefs 21

While the Chiefs still have a field goal to score in this game, it could be the Ravens’ superstar kicker who flips the bookies’ script on this one. People will mourn another slow start for the reigning champions, but it will all work out. Let Baltimore enjoy the moment.
