Bear Fire burns nearly 1,400 acres south of Loyalton, mandatory evacuations in effect

The fire has burned 1,578 hectares and was 0% under control as of Tuesday afternoon.

The fire has burned 1,391 hectares and was 0% under control as of Tuesday morning.

According to authorities, fire activity decreased overnight due to lower temperatures and decreasing winds.

The plan is to fight the fire north of Lewis Mill, south of the community of Sierra Brooks, east of Antelope Valley and west of Bald Mountain Range.

The community of Sierra Books remains under a mandatory evacuation and the following areas are under an evacuation warning: SIE-E022, SIE-E023, SIE-E027, SIE-E028, and SIE-E029. Incident managers will notify residents when it is safe to return to their homes.

The fire is threatening Sierra Brooks, with 286 buildings and 536 residents under mandatory evacuation orders from the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office.

According to authorities, the fire is approximately 1,183 hectares in size and is 0% contained.

The dry and windy conditions caused the fire to spread rapidly, with fires being spotted up to 400 metres away.

The fire is threatening Sierra Brooks, with 286 buildings and 536 residents under mandatory evacuation orders from the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office.

760 homes and businesses are without power.

According to Tahoe National Forest officials, the Bear Fire has burned an estimated 2,700 acres of forest.

Mandatory evacuations are in effect for residents on the west side of Sierra Brooks in zones SIE-E030, SIE-E031, and SIE-E032.

The smoke plume is visible over Truckee Meadows and all the way to Fernley to the east.

Multiple agencies are battling a wildfire that broke out Monday afternoon south of Loyalton.

According to forest officials, the Bear Fire has burned nearly 500 acres. The blaze started on Labor Day in the Sierra Brooks area, just off Bear Valley Road.

The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office has issued a mandatory evacuation order for the west side of Sierra Brooks due to a wildfire (area highlighted in pink below).

A red flag warning is in effect for most of the region until 8 p.m. Monday due to increased fire danger and strong winds.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Please check back with us for updates as they become available.
