Bournemouth stunned Manchester City as goals from Antoine Semenyo and Evanlison gave them their first win over the Premier League champions.

The result ended City’s 32-match unbeaten run in the league – a record dating back to December 6, 2023.

It is also a second defeat in four days for Pep Guardiola’s side following their Carabao Cup exit at Tottenham in midweek.

The Cherries, in good form after taking four points from their past two games against Aston Villa and Arsenal, started fast and full of positivity.

Ederson had to make a double save after just two minutes when he denied Semenyo and Justin Kluivert.

With the tone set, Bournemouth continued to press high and they were rewarded in the ninth minute when Milos Kerkez’s cut-back from the byeline was turned in by Semenyo.

City failed to attempt a goal during a largely frustrating first half.

Bournemouth entered the second period full of confidence and came close to doubling their lead in the opening minute, but Ederson was sharp off his line to keep out Evanlison’s effort.

However, Evanlison made sure to slide onto Kerkez’s low ball on his next chance and nestle it into the bottom corner.

The home side should have saved it three moments later but Adam Smith, presented with an open goal, shot over the bar after Marcus Tavernier’s shot came back off the post.

City finally registered an effort on target in the 80th minute, albeit a tame one, with Erling Haaland struggling to get any power from his volley.

And two minutes later, Josko Gvardiol headed past the desperate Mark Travers to offer hope, but the Premier League champions failed to get an equalizer.

Deep into extra time, Haaland thought he had taken a point, but his shot from close range was saved on the line before his rebound hit the post.

The defeat means City drop to second place after Liverpool came from behind to beat Brighton, while Bournemouth rose to eighth.
