“Boy, that must have been a painful day.”

Former President Trump joked about Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s confirmation, noting that it “must have been a painful day in his life” because the two have been at odds for years.

Speaking at a rally in North Carolina on Sunday, Trump mentioned McConnell after comments about inflation under the administration of President Biden and Vice President Harris.

“They caused inflation. They ruined my energy policy, and prices went up and everything else, plain and simple. Plus, they spent way too much. They got trillions and trillions of dollars,” Trump said, as highlighted by Mediaite.

“Hopefully we can get rid of Mitch McConnell soon, because he helped that guy. Can you believe he supported me? Boy, that must have been a painful day in his life,” he continued.

McConnell endorsed Trump in March, but their relationship remains icy.

The minority leader is reportedly not talking to Trump, even as most of the Senate GOP conference floated the idea of supporting his presidential campaign.

A new biography of the senator shows that McConnell privately labeled Trump “stupid,” “bad-tempered” and a “despicable human being” after the 2020 election.

McConnell made the comments before the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, and the two publicly parted ways as the senator acknowledged Biden as the official winner of the election and later portrayed him as a good guy.

Asked about his previous comments, McConnell said last month that his comments pale in comparison to what other Trump allies have said about the former president, and that it didn’t matter because “we’re all on the same team now.”

Still, it appears Trump is harboring a grudge. At his rally on Sunday, he blasted McConnell, saying the Kentucky Republican “didn’t need to support him.”

“What a shame,” he said.
