Brazilian media react to Wolves midfielder André’s performance in Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Paraguay

Wolves midfielder André was back in action for Brazil, playing 90 minutes in the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay.

After winning the international match against Ecuador in September, Brazil suffered a defeat against Paraguay.

André was selected to start both games and played a role in Tuesday night’s win and disappointing loss.

Wolves will be pleased to see the signing made on the final day of the campaign return to Molineux fit and ready for the Premier League as the international break draws to a close in September.

It was a difficult match for Brazil, who were unable to assert themselves against Paraguay, who took the lead in the 20th minute.

Andre impressed for Brazil against Ecuador, but like many of his teammates he had less impact against Albirroja

The Brazilian media reacted to the Seleção’s defeat, with Zero Hora giving his opinion on André’s performance, giving him a 5/10 rating.

“He couldn’t make good passes like he did against Ecuador. He stayed hidden.”

Ge.globo gave a similar assessment and was sympathetic to the Wolves midfielder due to the lack of cohesion in midfield.

“It’s difficult to give a fair assessment of a player who played virtually no part as the game progressed.

“When Paraguay dropped their lines and waited for Brazil, the defenders were expected to play the ball out faster so that the team could build a more aggressive phase, but in the end it was André who had to drop back to play this role.

“He was solid in the defensive transition, he occupied the spaces well, but the reality is that he hardly played a role in the game.”

It wasn’t all doom and gloom for André that evening: Terra rated the 23-year-old as Brazil’s best midfielder, a higher rating than Premier League duo Lucas Paqueta and Bruno Guimaraes.

GOAL praised the combative summer signing for his defensive role in midfield, saying: “(Andre) flew into tackles, patrolled space but didn’t move the ball too quickly.”

Fellow Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes did not play for Brazil

André will be happy to have played a full 90 minutes for his country as he continues to establish himself as a leading midfielder in Dorival Junior’s side.

It was a positive night for Wolves as André played the game fully fit and Joao Gomes did not play, giving him a boost for the upcoming domestic league games.

Gomes played only 10 minutes during the international break in September, coming on as a substitute in Brazil’s final against Ecuador.

Wolves fans are still waiting for the midfield combination of André and Gomes, with the duo’s qualities likely to merge in the Premier League when Newcastle United next visit Molineux.
