Caitlin Clark eliminated by Alyssa Thomas in Fever’s win over Sun

Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark has battled injuries and bruises throughout her first WNBA campaign, and she took a beating against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night.

In the third quarter, Clark attempted to chase down a Sun player when Connecticut center Alyssa Thomas picked her off with an interception from the perimeter.

Clark fell hard to the field after hitting Thomas’ right shoulder.

The whistle was quickly blown for a foul on Thomas, but it was no more than a normal foul.

Clark has been the victim of serious fouls this season, both times against Chicago Sky.

The first was a Chennedy Carter check that made headlines in early June. Carter knocked Clark to the ground, and while it was initially called a simple foul, the WNBA upgraded it to a flagrant foul.

Carter defended it after the game, calling it a “basketball game.”

Then Carter’s teammate, Angel Reese, another rookie star, hit Clark in the head while attempting to block in another matchup with the Fever this season. Clark again fell to the ground with force, and Reese was assessed a flagrant foul after a review.

Like Carter, Reese said she was just making a basketball move.

Clark broke the WNBA rookie record for most 3-pointers made in a season in the first quarter on Wednesday by hitting a 26-foot stepback over DiJonai Carrington for her first basket of the game.

Although Clark broke all WNBA rookie records this season, the Fever recorded a tough win over the Sun, 84-80.
