Carlos Sainz praises ‘almost perfect’ performance for pole in Mexico as he vows to ‘finish the job’ with victory

Carlos Sainz expressed his satisfaction after setting up a charging display during qualifying for the Mexico City Grand Prix – with the Ferrari driver leaving the competition in his wake on his way to pole position.

While he was on provisional pole after his first lap, with Max Verstappen having lost a lap time above the track limits, Sainz improved to a time of 1:15.946 seconds next time and finished two tenths ahead of his Red Bull rival in the checkered flag.

Asked to reflect on the sixth pole of his F1 career, which he wants to convert into a fourth victory, Sainz said: “(I’m) very happy. Some great laps.
