Donald Trump, during his first term as US president, planned to appoint Kashyap Patel, a lawyer of Indian origin, as deputy director of the CIA in the final weeks of his administration. With Trump securing another term, Patel will be the likely choice.

  1. Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel is of Gujarati descent and says his parents grew up in East Africa. According to The Atlantic, his father fled Uganda, ruled by Idi Amin, in the 1970s and moved to the US.
  2. Mr. Patel was born and raised in Garden City, New York in 1980. He was raised Hindu and his senior yearbook quote was from Jewish theologian Abraham Joshua Heschel: “Racism is man’s greatest threat – the maximum hate for a minimal reason.”
  3. According to his Department of Defense profile, Mr. Patel completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Richmond before returning to New York to obtain his law degree, along with a certificate in international law from the University College London Faculty of Law in Great Britain.
  4. The 44-year-old served as former chief of staff to acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller. Previously, as deputy assistant to the president and senior director of counterterrorism at the National Security Council, he carried out some of then-President Donald Trump’s top priorities, including eliminating ISIS and al-Qaeda leaders such as al-Baghdadi and Qasem al- Rimi. and the repatriation of many American hostages.
