FRISCO, TX — It appears that CeeDee Lamb is indeed “ready to fight,” as he declared shortly after signing his shiny new mega-deal with the Dallas Cowboys in late August. His post-holdout rebuild is presumably over as of Thursday, as the All-Pro receiver was a full participant in the team’s first full-contact practice in Week 1.

When asked if he was going all out, his answer was unequivocal.

“Yeah, I’m ready,” said the reigning NFL receptions leader. “Today was definitely one of those days and again, shout out to the guys, the coaches, for really guiding me through this whole week. Obviously, I knew I was ready mentally and physically it’s a little bit different, but today got me ready.

What gave him the confidence that he won’t be put on the pitch count in Cleveland during Thursday’s practice?

“It was a full contact, full padded practice and we’re in the process of game planning and getting different things set up, so I got to go up against those,” Lamb said. “That was fun.”

He hopes he’ll enjoy it even more when the Cowboys visit the Browns in Cleveland in three days, judging by those comments. And while he knows it won’t be an easy task against one of the best defenses in the entire NFL, Lamb is looking forward to it, too.

And it’s safe to say he’s prepared well, considering the defense he faces every day in training.

“(The Browns are) pretty good, man,” the three-time Pro Bowler said. “They’re pretty good on all fronts — edge rushers, linebackers, they’ve got fast DBs. I know a couple of them really well. I know I’m good on a personal level, so it’s going to be fun.

Lamb will be leaving, as will Dak Prescott. The two have emerged as perhaps the best QB-WR duo in the league, with the former setting records in 2023, while the latter finished as an All-Pro and second in the MVP race behind only Lamar Jackson.

As it stands, Lamb has his new contract in hand, Prescott is waiting for it to come in. But if anyone knows how taxing the process can be, it’s Lamb, fresh off a holdout, and Prescott, who went through a lengthy (two-year) round of negotiations the first time around.

And they both know how quickly a yellow traffic light can change to green.

“I feel like 24 hours can really change your life,” Lamb said. “Obviously it has for me and throughout the process that I’ve been through, and this is Dak’s second time at the table, so I know he’s very familiar with this and how Jerry works. I have no doubt they’re going to get the job done, but again, he can’t win a game by himself.”

Lamb himself would like to retire as a cowboy.

“I don’t think anybody in the NFL really wants to just jump around (from team to team) and not to be an insult to those who (do), but yeah, I don’t see it,” he said of his future in Dallas. “I never saw that as my future and I always wanted to be in one area, and Dallas is that area for me. I’d love to be here for another contract, and another one. You know what I mean?

“So build on the legacy I’ve already been given and help hold this torch.”

It’s time to light it again, and there are plenty of expectations to keep it burning.
