According to Caltrans, checks are required on all vehicles except those with four-wheel drive on I-80 beginning just before Donner Pass Road.

The National Weather Service in Reno urged motorists to go slow along mountain passes in the Sierra because of ice and snow.

The Truckee area is under a winter weather advisory until 10 p.m. Snow is expected above 6,000 feet, Reno NWS said.

In Truckee, a high of 44 degrees is expected, with a low of 14 degrees overnight.
