Chiefs, Cooper, Browns, Jefferson, Bills, Eagles

Remembering the Patriots of 2010, the Leaders have continued to pile up wins without style points. They are the NFL’s only undefeated, although the two-time reigning Super Bowl champions’ plus-43 point differential — thanks to four one-score wins — ranks seventh in the NFL. Kansas City lost Rashee Rice for the season, and Marquise Brown is out for at least the entire regular season. The team also lost JuJu Smith-Schuster on Sunday; the recently re-signed veteran aggravated a hamstring injury and will miss at least week 8, Andy Reid said.

While the Chiefs have an all-time great tight end Travis Kelceeven if it’s a 35 year old version of the TE/podcast host/actor, they didn’t see the first round Xavier Waard become a consistent option. The team has used Mecole Hardman more, with Justin Watson And Sky Moore reprized their role as regulars in 2023 due to the injuries. While Kansas City continues to thrive — thanks in large part to a stout defense — SI.com’s Albert Breer points out that the team is still interested in adding a wideout.

The Chiefs are linked to DeAndre Hopkins And Christian Kirk recently, but haven’t taken a step yet. It will be interesting to see if an AFC team would be willing to help them put together a better threepeat bid. NFCer Kuiper Kuppis available, albeit for a second round. With the deadline pushed back a week this year (to November 5), here’s more from the trade market:

  • Amari Kuiper moved to Buffalo last week, with the Tanning — after not extending the reliable veteran this offseason — dealt him to the Bills in a pick-swap trade headlined by a 2025 third-rounder. According to cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns planned to sign Cooper hold until closer to the deadline. In addition to Buffalo, two other teams were in the running for the former top-five pick, according to Cabot, who added that the other suitors didn’t match the Bills’ aggression. Cooper didn’t expect to be dealt, and the Browns didn’t expect the Bills to show such strong interest. The 30-year-old pass catcher caught four passes for 66 yards and a touchdown in his Bills debut.
  • The Bills are not closing the door on another move to aid their ongoing Super Bowl quest. GM Accounts Brandon Beane said during one Pat McAfee Show interview that Josh AllenThe team’s presence, despite the cost-cutting measures this season, continues to keep the club “all in” toward a Super Bowl push. The eighth-year GM is open to more deals, though The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia indicates a lower-profile trade — possibly for a backup offensive lineman — could be Cooper’s encore. Beane added that the Browns showing cold feet on Cooper would have prompted the team to continue looking at the receiver. Cooper’s presence rounds out Buffalo’s receiving corps, which has seen improvement Khalil Shakir and some recent rookie growth Keon Coleman.
  • Another one Tanning player attracting trade interest: Veteran D-lineman Quinton Jefferson. Teams have been asking about the recent free agent signing, notes Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. A productive but nomadic player, Jefferson has played for five teams in the past five years. The former Seahawks draftee has acted as a Browns backup, appearing in five games and recording one sack. The Browns used blank years to lower Jefferson’s cap hit to $1.2 million (on a one-year, $4 million deal), giving an acquiring team a minimum prorated amount to withdraw in the event of a transaction. The Browns can be expected to move other pieces that aren’t essential to their plans for 2025 and beyond, but Myles Garrett And Denzel district are seen as off the table.
  • The Eagles got a rebound attempt from their pass rush Sunday, which they capitalized on Andrew Thomasabsence to sack Giants quarterbacks eight times. Jalen Carter and off-ball linebacker Nakobe Dean led the way with two a piece. The other four came from defensive teams, but the fringe group started slowly. Big FA signing Bryce Huff has 1.5 sacks and just three QB hits in six games. In Week 7, Breer added the Eagles – rarely shy about trade talks Howie Roseman – could be a team to watch regarding a pass-rushing addition.
