The Kansas City Chiefs offense took a huge blow on Sunday when Patrick Mahomes collided with Rashee Rice and the wide receiver was forced to leave the game.

Rice was diagnosed with a right knee injury, with the team reportedly fearing he could have torn his ACL. He was on the receiving end of a Mahomes shoulder as he tried to tackle Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton after an interception.

“Obviously the corner made a good play. I tried to shoot it to his body,” Mahomes said. “I kind of knocked him over, turned the ball over, and then I thought Rashee made a really good play. I tried to tackle the guy and obviously rolled towards him. If I just don’t turn the ball over, then that so.” never happens. So you just have to try to get better at that.

“I didn’t know exactly what was happening because I was obviously trying to make a tackle, but I know Rashee and how strong he is. So because he was so down, I knew it wasn’t right. All we do is I pray the x-rays, MRIs and stuff like that is better than it looked, but I mean the next guy until he gets back.”

Rice walked gingerly back to the bench before being taken off the field in a cart.

“I feel bad for Rashee,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “…We hope for the best.”

This would be a huge loss for the Chiefs, who are already without Hollywood Brown this season after he suffered a season-ending injury before even taking a break with his new team.

Kansas City has also been without star running back Isiah Pacheco for weeks after he suffered a broken fibula in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Rice’s return to an NFL field is also murky due to off-field issues. He is awaiting trial on several charges stemming from a high-speed car crash on a Texas highway in March. Rice could face NFL discipline after the legal proceedings.

Rice, who did not have a catch in this game, would finish the season with 288 yards on 24 receptions with two receiving touchdowns if he is actually done for the season.
