Hud and Mackenzie may not have won Claim to famebut they owe their blossoming romance to the show.

After a dramatic challenge earlier in the episode that left Adam in the emergency room, the discussion heated up even more when Mackenzie and Hud found themselves in trouble.

After winning the previous challenge, the power was in Adam’s hands. He had appointed himself as the one to solve the riddle. He guessed that Mackenzie’s relative was her father Trace Adkins and that Hud’s relative was his father John Mellencamp.

As a result, Adam was crowned the winner of Season 3 of Claim to fameand eventually he revealed that it was a famous relative: his uncle Michael Bolton.

While Hud and Mackenzie admit they wish things had turned out differently, Hud notes that he was happy to be in the final two with Adam after working with him all season.

“I can only be happy for him,” he said. “He’s been through so much just to get injured that day. It’s a nightmare to be taken out of the game when you get injured, so there was a point where we thought he was going home just because he’d put in the time and effort and to get injured like that stinks. It’s the worst way to go out. So I’m really happy for him, but at the same time I wanted to win.”

Mackenzie adds that she felt very accomplished going into the betting off, especially knowing she had followed her father’s advice. “My dad told me before I went out that I just had to be in every episode,” he jokes. “I had a good game.”

Aside from all the chaos of Adam’s injury and the eventual gamble, the season finale also saw sparks fly between Mackenzie and Hud as they put their flirtatious relationship on display during a montage set to Season 1 runner-up Logan Crosby’s “The Girl Next Door.” Though Mackenzie teased that their romance was “all for the game,” she joked that maybe that would change once the show was over.

So, what exactly is the state of their relationship now? While Mackenzie and Hud have been coy about their official relationship status, they do confirm that they have been seeing each other quite a bit since filming wrapped.

“We’re just hanging out, seeing what happens,” Hud teases. “He’s visited me a couple times in Nashville,” Mackenzie adds. “I’ve visited him. Yeah, it’s been good.”

Mackenzie notes that it’s been incredible to connect with Hud and her castmates because they live similar lives. “That was one of the things that I was so excited about, because I was like, ‘These people get me,’” she says. “Especially Hud, because we’re both, he’s our dad and they’re both musicians. It’s just so similar. It’s been great, so much fun getting to know everyone.”

In fact, both families will come together for a Claim to fame Season 3 finale viewing party at Mackenzie’s house. “My dad is actually flying to Nashville tomorrow so we can all watch the finale together. We’re having a little party, Mackenzie set everything up,” Hud says, adding that his father is convinced he won the show. “I haven’t told him anything yet and he’s livid.”

“My dad did the exact same thing,” Mackenzie adds. “He’s convinced I won. He says, ‘You wouldn’t have all those people coming if you hadn’t won. You can’t.’ He says, ‘Hud’s coming with his dad. You won. Easy.'”

In addition to bringing their families together, the viewing party will also Claim to fame family together, including contestants from season 3 and stars from previous seasons.

“It’s going to be so much fun,” Mackenzie says. “I’m excited. A lot of them have never been to Nashville, so I’m going to miss out on a full Nashville experience.”

While Mackenzie hosts, Hud will be bringing the refreshments with his new Mellencamp Whiskey. “I have my whiskey coming next month or so, so I have my unreleased whiskey that I’m bringing,” he adds. “All of our drinks should be made with it. It’s going to be fun.”
