Cleveland Guardians ALCS roster vs. New York Yankees

play

NEW YORK – The Guardians have announced the roster they will take to the American League Championship Series, where they will face the New York Yankees.

When drafting their ALDS roster for the Detroit Tigers, the Guardians opted to carry an additional position player and only 12 pitchers. They knew the added pinch-hitting flexibility would be valuable against the Tigers’ pitching chaos strategy, so Cleveland adjusted its plans from how it normally would have constructed the roster.

In preparation for the Yankees and for a best-of-seven series, the Guardians have readjusted and made one change from the ALDS roster as they now have thirteen pitchers. Pedro Avila, who was not on the ALDS roster, will now be available out of the bullpen in place of Angel Martinez, who was the extra utility man on the bench. That was originally going to be Tyler Freeman, until an oblique injury sidelined him.
