As Gauff burst into tears of frustration, a referee came over to him and defended the chair umpire’s decision.

“I never dispute decisions and you know that, but this is not fair. I feel like I’m being cheated all the time in this game and I have to argue about it,” a visibly emotional Gauff said. “It happens to me all the time on this pitch. I have to stand up for myself every time.”

Gauff also claimed that she had previously received apologies for poor decisions on the court.

“Then you apologize afterwards, and say ‘I’m sorry,'” Gauff accused. “But what does that do for me in the game?”

Although the linesman claimed that the apparent bias against Gauff was “not intentional,” the American athlete fired back: “Okay, it’s not intentional. It happens to me. It happens to Serena Williams).”

After a long back and forth, Gauff walked back to the field in tears and said, “You guys are not being fair to me, and I hope the game will be fair someday, but it’s not.”
