    Cowboys lose to Ravens, 28-25: Score-by-score updates

    The Baltimore Ravens took an early lead on Sunday and held on to it into the final minutes against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.

    Baltimore (1-2) jumped out to an early lead and extended it into the second quarter before halftime. Dallas (1-2) was looking to bounce back from a poor showing in Week 2 but went into halftime trailing 21-6.

    Lamar Jackson started off by completing 10 of his 11 pass attempts for 161 passing yards and one touchdown pass. He finished 12-for-15 for 182 yards. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense struggled to find a rhythm and went without a touchdown through the first two quarters. But a 19-point fourth quarter by Dallas made it a one-score game.

    Jackson and the Ravens were able to run out the clock, however, resulting in the Cowboys losing their second straight game at home. Prescott finished the game 28 of 51 for 379 yards and two touchdowns.

    For nearly three and a half quarters, it looked like the Cowboys had no chance in this game. That all changed when the Cowboys scored three touchdowns on three consecutive drives. The third of those came off the arm of Prescott to wide receiver KaVontae Turpin for 16 yards. Dallas trailed by three points, with a defensive stop and a score needed to complete the comeback. 28-25, Ravens.

    Aided by an onside kick recovery, Dallas drove down the field and cut the lead again. Prescott found wide receiver Jalen Tolbert for a 15-yard touchdown strike, followed by a failed 2-point conversion attempt to cut the lead to 28-18.

    It took until deep into the fourth quarter for it to happen, but the Cowboys finally managed to score a touchdown. The offense sustained a six-play, 64-yard drive that was capped by a one-yard quarterback keeper from Prescott. They failed on the 2-point conversion attempt, putting them behind 28-12.

    After the half, Dallas hopes they can find a way to stop the bleeding after another ugly half of football. But the Ravens continue their attack on the ground. This time, Henry cashes in from 26 yards to extend Baltimore’s lead to 28-6.

    Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey added three points with two seconds left in the half to trim the lead heading into the locker room. But it’s been more of the same for the Cowboys after a poor showing against the Saints in Week 2, as they struggled to make plays on offense, find stops on defense and injure themselves on penalties.

    After a first quarter that featured three scoring drives, the second quarter was far less explosive on the offensive side of the ball. The Ravens were able to cash in again with under 30 seconds left in the half, capping an eight-play, 88-yard drive with a 13-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Rashod Bateman to extend their lead to 21-3.

    At this point, the Cowboys defense is on the ropes, struggling. Fresh off a drive that saw them blow to open the game, they’re getting blown to a similar result. This time, it was a long catch-and-run that ended with Derrick Henry finishing a seven-play, 70-yard drive from 1 yard out to extend their lead.

    The talented Cowboys kicker saved a stalled drive with a 65-yard field goal, the longest in team history. Aubrey’s kick was just 1 yard shy of tying the league record. Dallas extended the score to 7-3.

    New week, new opponent, same old 2024 Cowboys defense. After blowing their first offensive drive, the Dallas defense let Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense march down the field for a five-play, 71-yard drive, capped by a 9-yard touchdown run from Jackson.

    Ravens vs. Cowboys Predictions

    NFL.com: A majority picks the Ravens over the Cowboys. It seems that NFL.com believes that the battle between Baltimore and Dallas could be a close one, but it will take some time for the Cowboys to regain their confidence after last week’s performance. Of the five predictions, everyone had the game within one score in one way or another, but only two people picked the Cowboys to win.

    USA TODAY: A majority picks the Cowboys over the Ravens. The USA TODAY staff seems to be leaning much more in favor of the Cowboys, with three of their four selections leaning toward Dallas. Again, they all believe it will be a close game, with the largest margin of victory selected at three points.

    No team that has ever started 0-3 has ever won a Super Bowl, and the Ravens head to Dallas with that fact in mind. It’s hard not to call the Cowboys contenders now that they can play like they did last week.

    In previous seasons under Mike McCarthy, Dak Prescott and company have shown an ability to bounce back from adversity after a big loss. Since 2021, they’ve gone 12-2 in such scenarios. They’ll need to do that again Sunday if they want to avoid falling below .500.

    It will be a close game, with both teams trading blows throughout. Dallas, however, has a bad taste in their mouth and that sense of shame could be enough to push them over the line. Cowboys, 27-23.
