But even a man with such self-confidence could not have predicted that 22 years later he would still be scoring and passing the 900-strike mark.

It took just over five years for Ronaldo to reach the 100-goal mark, which he did from the penalty spot against Tottenham on 27 January 2008.

Seven years later, the striker passed the 500-goal mark with a goal against Malmö in the Champions League group stage on 30 September 2015.

Incredibly, it took him less than nine years to reach the remaining 400 strikes and become the first man to reach 90 percent of the 1,000 strikes.

The only other player to have passed 800 is his old rival Lionel Messi, who has a total of 838 for club and country.

The numbers behind Ronaldo’s unprecedented achievement are staggering. The Portuguese superstar has scored goals everywhere he has gone in his long career.
