The New York Giants host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon in the first battle of the year between the two NFC East rivals.

My analysis

The Philadelphia Eagles are finally getting healthier on offense as wide receiver AJ Brown returned last week and is expected to be a full “go” again this week. However, that shouldn’t have a major negative impact on fellow top player DeVonta Smith, who has missed just one game this season.

Smith leads the Eagles with 303 yards and is tied with Dallas Goedert for the team lead with 24 catches and two touchdowns. He is consistently a major threat for the Birds as he makes the most of his targets, even if they are limited.

The wide receiver has racked up over 60.5 receiving yards in all four games this season and cleared them quite easily in his first three games. It was a close call last week against the Browns with 64 yards on three catches (four targets), but a 45-yard touchdown helped tip the scales.

The New York Giants defense is in the top half of the league, averaging less than 200 passing yards per game, but we’ve seen teams with two top wideouts have success against them. Last week, both Ja’Marr Chase (72 yards) and Tee Higgins (77) gained more than 60.5 yards against New York.

In fact, the Giants have allowed at least one wide receiver to rush for more than 60.5 yards receiving in each of their last four games — with Justin Jefferson (59) and Noah Brown (56) just missing in the first two weeks.

Smith has played the Giants once in his career, catching four passes on five targets for 79 yards and a score in a Week 15 win last year.

Smith has a touchdown in two of four games this season and the Giants have allowed multiple touchdown passes in three of their six games.

The Eagles have had a few close calls this season, but they are still a much better team than their division rival. Even on the road, I expect Philly to get the job done and improve to 4-2.
