Eder Militao sustains a knee injury, leaving Real Madrid vs Osasuna on the stretcher

Eder Militao left Saturday’s La Liga match against Real Madrid’s Osasuna on a stretcher after suffering a serious knee injury.

The Brazil international, 26, was forced off after 30 minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu after appearing to hit the turf with his studs.

He was treated on his right knee by medical staff before leaving the field on a stretcher with his shirt covering his face. He was replaced by Raul Asencio, who made his senior debut for the club.

Rodrygo (quad) also had to leave the field earlier in the match, while Lucas Vazquez (hip) also withdrew during half-time.

The club says all three will undergo tests later on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s quite rare,” manager Carlo Ancelotti said of the team suffering three injuries in one half.

“The demands of this schedule mean that the players cannot get enough rest. They come to the matches more tired and the risk of injuries is greater… For everyone, not just us.”

Militao tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee in the opening match of last season and did not return until March.

He has been Antonio Rüdiger’s regular central defense partner this season, making 17 appearances in all competitions, including all 12 league matches to date.

Militao signed for Porto for €50 million in 2019 and went on to win two Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, one Club World Cup, two European Super Cups, one Copa del Rey and two Supercopas de Espana.

In Militao’s absence, a Vinicius Junior hat-trick and Jude Bellingham’s first goal of the season secured a comfortable 4-0 win.

Real Madrid are next in action after the international break away at Leganes on November 24.
