Election security updates: FBI ‘aware’ of fake news clip urging people not to vote

The chief of elections in Fulton County – the largest in the critical state of Georgia – said Monday that they had a smooth start this morning, with all locations opening on time and tens of thousands of voters casting ballots, although two locations were briefly closed. evacuated after a series of bomb threats.

Elections director Nadine Williams said the county received five “non-credible” bomb threats that led to two voting locations being evacuated for about 30 minutes each. The province is considering filing a lawsuit to extend the hours for these locations.

“All polling stations are secured with an active security presence,” Williams assured.

“Other than these brief interruptions, Election Day passed off uneventfully, with minimal issues,” she continued, “and we remain prepared to address any misinformation or further disruptions to ensure a smooth experience for all voters today.”

Williams said 29,500 ballots were cast in the county as of 9:40 this morning.

Regarding the timing of the results, Williams said the 417,000 votes from the advance voting, as well as ballots received through Monday, will be uploaded tonight at 8 p.m.

As for the rest of the locations, Williams said that barring long lines tonight, the memory cards with today’s votes should be back in the main center, where they “hope we’ll see the rest of the results come out before midnight.” “

“As soon as the memory cards arrive, we will begin uploading,” Williams said.
