Elizabeth Warren outraged by Trump appointments: ‘Should be rejected’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., on Tuesday criticized President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of people to serve his administration.

She posted on social media that Trump’s nomination of Pete Hegseth, a military veteran turned Fox News host, as defense secretary will make the US less safe.

“A Fox & Friends weekend co-host is not qualified to be Secretary of Defense,” Senator Warren wrote on X.

“My three brothers all served in uniform. I respect all our military personnel,” she added. “Donald Trump’s choice will make us less safe and must be rejected.”

Hegseth served in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay while serving in the U.S. Army. His website also lists him as the former CEO of a veteran advocacy organization. In 2017, he became co-host of the “Fox & Friends” weekend.

Trump said in his nomination announcement that “no one fights harder for the troops” than Hegseth, adding that the television host will be a “courageous and patriotic champion of our ‘Peace through Strength’ policy.”

“Pete spent his life as a warrior for the troops and for the country. Pete is tough, smart and a true supporter of America First,” the statement said. “With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on notice – our military will be great again, and America will never back down.”

Trump also chose businessmen Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, to head a Department of Government Efficiency. Senator Warren mocked the choices on X.

“The Office of Government Efficiency is off to a good start with split leadership: two people doing one person’s job,” she said. “Yes, this seems REALLY efficient.”

The department will provide private advice and guidance while working with the White House to “achieve major structural reforms” and create an “entrepreneurial approach” to government, Trump said.

“Together, these two great Americans will pave the way for my administration to dismantle the government bureaucracy, eliminate excess regulations, reduce wasteful spending and restructure federal agencies – essential to the ‘Save America’ movement,” said the President-elect .

“It will potentially become the ‘Manhattan Project’ of our time,” Trump noted.
