  2. Go to Windows updates.
  3. Getting started with “ Join the Windows Insider Program “.

  • Insider builds, especially in the Dev channel can be unstable and may contain insectsFor these builds, a secondary device is recommended if possible.
  • Active participation and feedback are crucial for Microsoft to improve Windows 11.
  • If you wish to leave the Insider Program, you can return to a stable public release although this may require a clean install of Windows.

How do I join the Windows Insider Program in Windows 11?

Let’s start with the steps.

  • Open Windows settings using the key combination Win key + I.
  • In the left pane, click Windows update.

  • Before starting the process, enabling Optional Diagnostic Data is mandatory. Therefore, click Open Diagnostics & feedback.

  • Switch ” Send optional diagnostic data “to ON.

  • Now let’s go back to the Windows Insider Program. Click on “ Getting Started ” to join the Windows Insider Program.

  • It is a 4 step process. The first step is to Link an account.

  • The next step is to review the agreement and accept the terms. Click Continue.

  • Now it’s time to choose the Insider Channel. There are 4 options to choose from, Canary Channel, Dev Channel, Beta Channel(Recommended), and Release Preview. Each Channel serves different purposes. Choose accordingly. I’m going with Dev Channel for explanatory purposes.

  • When choosing Dev Channels, it is important to note that Dev Channels will have some rough edges and low stability. Therefore, it is highly recommended to keep Active Data Backup. It is very important. When you are ready to go, click Continue.

Please note: You can only switch from one channel to another if the channel you’re switching to receives higher build numbers than what your device is already on. As a result, you can only switch to the Canary channel without having to perform a clean install of Windows. However, if you want to switch to the Beta or Release Preview channels, you’ll need to perform a clean install of Windows and manually back up and restore any data you want to keep. If you opt for the Beta channel, which is the recommended option, you’ll be able to use higher builds like Dev and Canary without having to reinstall Windows 11.

  • The next step is to accept the Windows Insider Program Agreement and Privacy Statement. Click Continue.

  • Click on Restart to restart your device and check for updates. Make sure to leave your device powered on and plugged in, as we can expect preview builds to take a while to download and install.

  • Upon restart, Windows Updates may install. This may take some time. If it is not updated, you can open Windows Updates to check for newer and more secure builds.

  • That’s all. Windows Insider Program is now enabled on Windows 11 PC.

  • Canary Channel : Ideal for technical users. See the latest platform changes early in the development cycle. These builds are released with limited documentation, without extensive validation, and may be unstable.
  • Dev channel : Ideal for enthusiasts. Get access to the latest Windows 11 preview build as we hatch new ideas and develop long-term features. There will be some rough edges and low stability.
  • Beta channel : Ideal for early adopters. See and provide feedback on pre-release features for Windows 10 and Windows 11 in a stable environment.
  • Release example : Ideal if you want a preview of fixes and certain key features, and optional access to the next version of Windows before it is generally available to the world. This channel is also recommended for commercial users.
