Veterans Day is approaching, which means companies across the country will be giving back to the more than 20 million U.S. military personnel with deals and discounts.

Call your local business or restaurant ahead of time to make sure they offer a discount at their location, and don’t forget your valid military ID or honorable discharge card as proof of service.

Restaurants and stores in Iowa offering Veterans Day deals

Here are some local restaurants and shops where veterans and active duty military can grab a bite to eat, enjoy a treat, or save some money:

Arcadia Polk City

On Sunday, November 10, veterans and active duty military personnel can enjoy a free meal from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Big Grove Brewery

This Veterans Day, Big Gove invites all veterans, active duty members and Gold Star families to enjoy a free meal. The free meal options include hot beef, a four-cheese sandwich or a chicken Caesar salad. Free meals are available at all Big Grove locations from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m

Empty Park Zoo

National chains offering Veterans Day deals

Numerous national chains with a presence in Iowa also offer deals to honor veterans. Here are some of what you can find:

7 Make coffee

At all 7 Brew stands nationwide, veterans will receive a 25% discount on any drink when they present a valid military or veteran ID to employees on November 11th.

Apple bees

On November 11, Applebee’s will be serving free meals to veterans and active duty military members nationwide. With proof of service, they can choose from seven entrees, dine-in only.

Proof of service includes US Uniformed Services ID card, US Uniformed Services Retired ID card, current Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), veterans organization card (e.g. American Legion, VFW), photo of yourself in uniform, wearing uniform, DD214 and citation or praise.

Buffalo wild wings

Buffalo Wild Wings is offering a free order of 10 boneless wings and fries for veterans and active duty military personnel on Veterans Day. Offer only applies to dining with a valid ID and orders at the counter at Buffalo Wild Wings GO locations.

Caribou coffee

On November 11, veterans, active duty military and their spouses with valid ID can receive a small hot coffee of the day or a cold press, excluding nitro.

Chick-fil-A

Show your military or veteran ID for a free chicken sandwich at participating locations.

Cracker barrel

Veterans and active military personnel receive a free slice of Coca-Cola double fudge cake with their meal. The offer runs throughout the month of November.

Denny’s

Veterans and active military personnel will receive a free Build Your Own Grand Slam for dinner only on November 11 from 5 a.m. to noon.

Dunkin

Veterans and active duty military personnel can receive a free donut of their choice at participating locations on November 11, in-store only.

Fazolis

Fazoli’s is offering veterans and active duty military members a free spaghetti with marinara or meat sauce at participating locations on November 11 with valid proof of service. Dine or use the online code: Vet24.

Freddy’s

Veterans and active duty military personnel visiting participating locations on November 11 will receive a meal card valid for a free combination meal of their choice. The cards must be redeemed before December 31, 2024.

Grimaldi’s pizzeria

All active, veteran and retired military personnel with ID can enjoy a 25% discount at Grimaldi’s Pizzeria on November 11. The chain offers service members and veterans a 15% discount year-round.

IHOP

On Veterans Day, receive a free Red, White and Blue Pancakes or a Pancake Combo from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with dinner service only. Military ID or proof of military service is required.

Krispy Kreme

Veterans and active duty military personnel can start their Veterans Day with a free breakfast at Krispy Kreme, including a donut of your choice and a small cup of coffee.

Little Caesars

Veterans and military personnel can get a free lunch combo at participating Little Caesars locations between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Olive garden

On November 11, Olive Garden will host a free Veterans Day meal for all active duty military and veterans, including an entree from a special menu paired with breadsticks and salad or soup.

Perkins

Veterans and active duty members receive a free Magnificent Seven Breakfast on Veterans Day.

Red Cancer

Red Lobster is offering free shrimp and chips to veterans and active duty military members with proof of service. The meal consists of six hand-breaded, buttered and lightly fried shrimp, fries, coleslaw and a drink. Taxes and gratuities are not included. No substitutions or changes are allowed.

Scooter coffee

Veterans and active duty military personnel can receive a free medium drink with any drink on the Scooter’s Coffee menu on Veterans Day. Mobile pre-ordering is not available.

Starbucks

The coffee chain is offering veterans, active duty service members and their spouses a free 12 oz coffee at participating locations on November 11.

Sonic

On November 11, veterans and active duty members can enjoy half-price shakes in any size and flavor at participating Sonic locations.

Subway

Veterans and active duty service members can receive a free 6-inch sub sandwich or a 10% discount sub sandwich at participating locations.

Wendy’s

Active duty military and veterans get a free breakfast combo at participating Wendy’s locations on November 11 from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
