First warning of rain today and a mix for Halloween

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – We broke several record highs yesterday. Outside of Wausau, most communities in north-central Wisconsin eventually reached record highs. It will also be very warm on Wednesday morning.

The chance of precipitation is greatest from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday evening, whether it is rain or snow.

We’re starting out early today in the mid 60s. If we stayed this warm at the end of the day on Wednesday, we could break records. However, that will not be the case.

Wednesday will be warm and cloudy before storms arrive later in the day.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected this afternoon. Sometimes rainfall will be moderate or even heavy. Severe weather is still not expected, but storms can cause strong gusts of wind.

Thunderstorms will develop Wednesday afternoon, increasing in frequency during the evening.

Another rain shower will follow on Thursday morning. This second round will bring rain to most of central Wisconsin and a mix of rain and snow to the Northwoods. By the time the rain clears from the area, we expect as much as 1-3″ of rain to fall. Most of us won’t get any measurable snow, but some communities in the far Northwoods could pick up a few inches of snow on elevated surfaces. Roads and sidewalks are less likely to be affected because they are still warm from the heat we have had to start this week.

Temperatures for trick or treating will vary. Some of us will be in our mid-forties around Highway 29 and south. If you’re going trick or treating in the Northwoods, you’re more likely to be in your mid-30s.

During Halloween, temperatures in the Northwoods will be much cooler than further south.

The rest of the week will look a lot more like fall. Highs will be between 50 and 55 degrees for the most part over the weekend and early next week. More rain is expected from Sunday to Tuesday. It’s too early to say how much rain we’ll get.
