Former Arizona Coyotes player Paul Bissonnette, attacked at Scottsdale restaurant

Former Arizona coyotes player, podcaster and TNT hockey analyst Paul Bissonnette was attacked by six men at a Scottsdale restaurant Sunday night, police said.

The November 24 attack took place on Houston’s restaurant near McDonald Drive and Scottsdale Road around 7:30 p.m

“There was an altercation in the restaurant involving six adult men and management. Paul Bissonnette reportedly tried to help management calm the men down and get them to leave. The situation escalated when the men attacked Paul Bissonnette both inside and outside the restaurant .”Scottsdale Police Sgt. said Allison Sempsis.

The six men have been arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct. Five of them face misdemeanor charges and the sixth faces a misdemeanor charge. They were not identified.

As for Bissonnette’s injuries, Scottsdale police would not detail their severity but said they are not life-threatening. Him later released a video about the incident and said, “Everything is fine.”

FOX 10 called Houston’s and spoke to a manager who said they would not comment at this time.

Bissonnette played for the Arizona Coyotes from 2009 to 2014. He hosts the Barstool Sports hockey podcast Chiclets spit and is an analyst and host for NHL on TNT.

The former NHL team left Arizona after last season due to management issues and now plays in Salt Lake City as the Utah Hockey Club.

Bissonnette speaks out about the incident

About X, Barstool President Dave Portnoy shared a text exchange with Bissonnette in which he says he was attacked by seven men, adding that he “took some but gave more”.

FOX 10 reached out to Bissonnette and his representative but has not heard back. However, he posted a video on X on November 25, talk a little about what happened.

“How’s it going, gang? I just wanted to drop by because the news is out, and I’m getting a lot of texts and calls. I love you guys, thank you all for reaching out and checking in,” Bissonnette said. “I just wanted to address what happened last night so you can hear it from my mouth. “I don’t know what’s going on, I know there’s been a few articles out there and some news floating around.”

He says the full story will be told in a Spittin’ Chiclets podcast episode on November 26, as Monday happened to be a taping day.

“To be honest, it was kind of fun to go with the guys and have a laugh and forget about it for four hours,” he said.

He gave a summary of what happened and said he goes to Houston’s restaurant three to four times a week. He didn’t stop replenishing the staff and food.

“The bar where I normally sit was packed. I was sitting in the dining room and at one point there was some commotion in the bar. It was a bunch of drunk golfers. Things clearly continued to escalate. She asked a man to leave , and then a guy kept getting in the manager’s face and putting his hands on him,” Bissonnette said.

That lasted at least thirty seconds before the former NHL player intervened. He says he grabbed the arm of the man sitting on the manager and said, “Sir, if you continue to harass and abuse the staff, we are going to be in trouble. They just started laughing.”

He says the incident quickly escalated and ended in a CVS parking lot.

“I got knocked down a few times,” he said. “Luckily I didn’t become unconscious. I did go to the hospital, so everyone probably reads about that.”

He calls the suspects “bad guys” who were “way too drunk.” He says he is angry and wants the names of the suspects released.

“Unacceptable behavior in a family restaurant just because they couldn’t get another cocktail and didn’t want to hear ‘no’ for an answer,” he continued.

He says he wants to thank the restaurant staff, Scottsdale police officers, paramedics and hospital staff.

“Everything’s fine guys, it sucks,” he said. “It could have been a lot worse.”

Although Bissonnette says there were seven men involved in the fight, Scottsdale police say there were six.
