Freezewatch set for late Thursday through Friday | Local news

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a freeze warning for many areas of northern Nevada and California from late Thursday evening through Friday morning.

In their advisory, the NWS says temperatures in rural valleys could reach as high as 75 degrees.

In Nevada, areas under surveillance include Reno, Carson City, Minden, northern Washoe County, the western Nevada basin and area including Pyramid Lake, Mineral County and southern Lyon County.

In California, affected areas include Lassen County, eastern Plumas County, eastern Sierra County and Surprise Valley.

Frost and freeze conditions can kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and potentially damage unprotected outdoor pipes.

Urban areas are expected to reach temperatures between 80 and 90 degrees, while valleys in Lassen County could dip into the teens.
