FSU Football Depth Chart Behind DJ Uiagalelei

Shortly after DJ Uiagalelei threw an interception that Boston College nearly recovered for a touchdown, chants erupted from the stands at Doak S. Campbell Stadium.

Florida State fans, looking at an eight-point third-quarter deficit that would grow to 15, had seen enough of their team’s starting quarterback: “We want Brock,” fans chanted, a reference to Brock Glenn, another quarterback on the Seminoles’ roster.

Uiagalelei was a notable addition to coach Mike Norvell and his staff during the offseason. The former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback was a former five-star recruit with all the physical tools required to excel at the position. While he never lived up to the high expectations placed on him at Clemson, he had been good enough the past two seasons, throwing for 43 touchdowns and 14 interceptions as Clemson and Oregon State won a combined 19 games during that span.

At Florida State, however, he’s gotten off to a poor start. A Week 0 loss to Georgia Tech could have been dismissed as an early-season setback in a foreign land that could be quickly forgotten. But another disappointing performance, this time at home and against the team picked 14th in the ACC preseason poll, made the calls for change more understandable.

Through two games, Uiagalelei has completed 40 of 69 passes (57.9%) for 463 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Should Norvell opt to trade, where would he go? Here’s a look at Florida State’s depth chart and quarterback options:

Who is Florida State’s backup QB?

When Seminoles fans expressed their desire for a new quarterback, they knew exactly where to turn.

Brock Glenn is Florida State’s backup quarterback, trailing only Uiagalelei on the team’s depth chart. Glenn is a redshirt freshman in his second season with the program.

Though still relatively early in his career, Glenn does have some notable college experience. He has appeared in five games during the 2023 season, including starts in what were arguably the Seminoles’ two biggest games of the season: a win over Louisville in the ACC championship game and a loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Glenn had a few forgettable performances in each of those games, completing just 17 of his 47 passes (36.2 percent) for 194 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions while averaging just 4.1 yards per attempt.

Despite all his problems, Glenn was a true freshman who unexpectedly found himself in very difficult situations against top 15 teams after the two players ahead of him in the rankings suddenly couldn’t play due to injuries.

Coming out of Lausanne Collegiate School outside Memphis, Glenn was a three-star recruit, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, and was the nation’s No. 30 quarterback in the class of 2023. He originally committed to Ohio State, but returned his commitment and chose the Seminoles.
