Garrett Wilson emerging trade candidate for Pittsburgh Steelers

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers have been looking for a big-name receiver all summer, but have yet to land a move that they believe will fill their biggest need. While they were in the process of landing Davante Adams, the miss – and Adams ultimately ending up with the New York Jets – could have turned out in their favor.

With Adams in New York rejoining Aaron Rodgers as the clear-cut WR1 for the Jets, the team may look to clear a roster spot. Mike Williams is the most credible name to move in response to Adams, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter offered a different scenario for teams like the Steelers.

“Following the New York Jets’ acquisition of Davante Adams this week, a select group of NFL teams have been exploring whether the Jets would be willing to trade fellow star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, league sources told ESPN on Saturday,” Schefter wrote.

Wilson is a meaningful trade for any team due to his low salary cap hit and rookie contract.

At this time, according to Schefter, the Jets are not interested in trading Wilson. That doesn’t seem to stop teams from making calls.

The Steelers have been the team to watch for all wide receiver candidates this season. They started by chasing Brandon Aiyuk, who went right to the wire. At the time, they were interested in both Tim Patrick of the Denver Broncos and John Metchie of the Houston Texans. Ultimately, it was Adams, whose option they explored despite the Jets being the heavy favorites.

It could be Wilson. With the deadline approaching, the next two games in New York could push the players to move on from their previous first-round picks. If they do, the Steelers will be a team to watch.
