Below freezing temperatures likely this evening across much of the Northeast

Good afternoon everyone. As forecast and expected, we will have a cold night across most of the Northeast tonight, after a cool day today. Clear skies and light winds will help speed up the radiative cooling process at night, giving us colder than average temperatures.

In some areas of New York and Connecticut where the first freeze has not yet occurred, we have freeze warnings issued by the National Weather Service. These areas include Suffolk County on Long Island, NY, as well as the coastal region of Connecticut. In these areas there is a chance of temperatures just below freezing tonight, which could damage plants and crops that have not yet been harvested.

In other areas, such as Nassau County and N&W of the New York City region (Southeast New York), we have posted freeze warnings regarding that cold air. That said, much of the Northeast and New England are expected to experience temperatures dropping into the 20s before sunrise tomorrow.
