Heidi Klum transformed into ET for Halloween

All hail the reigning queen of Halloween. In true Heidi Klum form, the supermodel and spooky seasonal icon absolutely won the holiday this year with her latest creation. How, you may ask? It seems like an impossible task to follow up on history-making costumes like her version of Jessica Rabbit, the group’s peacock costume from last year, and the unforgettable time she dressed up as Fiona from the series. Shrek movies, but she topped them all with a couple’s costume with her husband Tom Kaulitz from the 1982 film AND

Both Klum and Kaulitz were dressed as giant ETs, but Klum wore a blonde wig, a black scarf, a red scarf and a hat to recreate the iconic scene in Steven Spielberg’s film where the alien dresses up and asks for ‘to call home’. The costumes were created using prosthetics and makeup to recreate the famous character’s bug eyes, head shape and long, skinny fingers.

Before the party, Klum gave fans a glimpse into her receiving process during an Amazon Live. During the hour-long broadcast, Klum talked about her now-famous Halloween party when her makeup artist began taping prosthetics to her face, which would eventually become ET’s neck.

Every year she keeps the concept so hidden that only her makeup and glam team knows about it, not even her friends. “Obviously there’s a big team involved because obviously I can’t do this alone,” she admitted. “But other than that, I’m not really telling anyone because I love the surprise part of it all.”

Klum added that she goes above and beyond every year because she hopes to “inspire” others. “I always try to surprise people. “I want to amaze people, surprise people and, above all, inspire people,” she said. ‘Halloween is all about art and turning yourself into something you’re not normally. So I hope I inspire people with their costumes so that everyone has fun and can be creative that day.”

Klum has also passed on her Halloween obsession to her children. During the Live, she said that her 15-year-old daughter, Lou, really loves the holidays. “She makes a lot of her costumes herself, like wigs and props, so she’s very involved. She doesn’t just go into a store and buy something.”

Earlier this month, the costume was teased ahead of its October 31 debut with a post on Instagram, according to NBC.

“This is going to be the craziest yet,” she said in a film in which she gets to work with makeup. “I mean, this makes me so happy, you don’t even know it! Look at this thing! I love it! I might even shed a tear right now! That’s amazing!” She went on to say that even the most die-hard Halloween fans wouldn’t be able to guess what she was up to.

Klum knows how much anticipation there is for her annual costume. She explained that there is definitely pressure on her to get bigger and bigger every year.

“You know, I’m quite competitive with myself and the things I’ve done in the past,” she said in 2023 as she prepared for the peacock costume. “I don’t want to let my Halloween fans down either.”

Even with all the experience under her belt, she added that it always comes down to the wire and that until she steps out to get the flashbulbs, no one knows if the costume is a success or a dud.

“It works or it doesn’t work,” she said. ‘That’s always the case. And always fingers, toes, everything crossed that it works out.’
