Hike under the Hunter’s Moon to Muskegon’s Lost Lake

MUSKEGON, MI – See what this week’s full super moon will illuminate for you and take a night hike to Muskegon’s hidden gem, Lost Lake.

This week’s full moon is the third and brightest supermoon of the year.

Muskegon Luge Adventure Park is taking advantage of the nighttime light and leading a moonlit hike this weekend.

The October moon is called the Hunter’s Moon by the Farmer’s Almanac and will be most visible Wednesday through Friday.

The Muskegon Luge keeps nighttime hikers company with its nighttime Hike The Lights series that runs through the cross-country trails in Muskegon State Park.

This weekend the park is hosting a special event to celebrate the supermoon.

The lights for the trail will turn on at sunset and a bonfire will take place in the fire garden within the trail system on Saturday, October 19 between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

Roasting sets and hot chocolate are available for purchase at the lodge. Season pass holders can show their pass for a free hot dog and s’mores package.

For those looking for more adventure, a 2.5-mile guided hike begins at 8 p.m. that winds its way through the state park to the hidden Lost Lake.

Lost Lake is hidden behind dune hills and has both swamp and marsh habitat. There is a wheelchair accessible path from the adventure park that leads to an accessible viewpoint on the north side of the wetland.

The Moonlit Walk to Lost Lake is a free activity. Meet at the lodge before 8:00 PM and don’t forget to bring a flashlight and an adventurous spirit.

You can make both experiences interactive with the scavenger hunt bingo game that takes place on Saturday evening. Score a bingo and win a free hot chocolate at the lodge.
