Hurricane Milton live updates: ‘Storm of the century’ expected to make landfall in Florida tonight

Hurricane Hunters aircraft experiences major turbulence while flying through Hurricane Milton

Florida residents in the path of Hurricane Milton have been issued a last-ditch emergency warning to GET OUT NOW before the storm makes landfall Wednesday evening.

As Milton’s intensity continues to fluctuate, weakening again to a Category 4 hurricane Wednesday morning, the National Hurricane Center predicts this will be “one of the most destructive hurricanes on record for west-central Florida.”

The storm continues to grow in size and winds are expected to increase on the west coast of Florida this afternoon, the NHC warned.

In Pinellas County’s latest emergency warning, officials implored residents to “LEAVE NOW. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO GO OUT BEFORE THE STORM.”

Federal and state officials have urged those in Milton’s path to evacuate to avoid “catastrophic” winds, up to 18 inches of rainfall and up to 15 feet of storm surge, before the major hurricane hits Florida’s west-central coast.

‘This is the eleventh hour. If you are in an evacuation zone, now is the time to get out,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chard Chronister told CNN on Wednesday.

Vice President Kamala Harris warned that even the toughest Floridians will not survive the “historic” hurricane, she said. The late show on Tuesday evening.

Biden slams Trump for his ‘attack’ of lies and disinformation about the hurricane

Joe Biden has criticized Donald Trump for leading an “assault of lies” and promoting “disinformation” about recovery and relief ahead of looming Hurricane Milton.

“Over the past several weeks, there has been a reckless, irresponsible and relentless promotion of disinformation and outright lies that alarm people,” Biden said in a televised statement on Wednesday.

“It undermines confidence in the incredible rescue and recovery work being undertaken. It harms those who need the help most.”

He added: “There is simply no place for this to happen. Because President Trump has led the onslaught of lies. There have been claims that property has been seized… that’s just not true… They say the money for this crisis is being diverted to migrants, what a ridiculous thing to say.”

Biden also mentioned Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her bizarre claim that Democrats were “in control again.” “It has to stop,” he said. “At times like these, there are no red states or blue states, there is one United States of America.”

Texas Mayor Suggests Hurricane Milton: ‘It Can Save More Than Hurt’

A Texas mayor proposed an unusual solution to prevent Hurricane Milton before it makes landfall: by bombing it with nuclear weapons.

Bobby Lindamood, the mayor of Colleyville, took to Facebook to share the bizarre idea with his network.

“Given the amount of destruction the next hurricane will bring, it’s time to throw a simi nu/ke bo//mb (minus the radiation) at this guy and see if we can stop the rotation. It can save more than it can hurt,” he wrote on Facebook.

“Just putting out thoughts and ideas. This is going to be bad,” he wrote on Facebook.

According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, that won’t work.

Hurricanes generate much more energy than even the largest nuclear bombs, according to NOAA. In fact, a fully developed hurricane releases energy equivalent to a 10-megaton bomb every 20 minutes. So even a nuclear explosion would barely make a dent in the storm’s strength.

Worse still, the radioactive fallout could be carried by the wind, spreading the contamination over a wide area.

Lindamood said The independent that his insights were simply an “expression of deep concern” for those in Milton’s path.

“After seeing the mass destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, my heart goes out to all the people who may be affected by one of the largest hurricanes in history,” he said.

“My post was simply an expression of deep concern for Florida and the surrounding states that will be affected. My comments were intended to convey a desire to use all available resources to protect American citizens, and not to be a literal suggestion.”

“We’re hurricane hunters!” Florida resident reveals why he’s not evacuating – despite mandatory orders

A Florida resident has revealed the reason he chose not to evacuate despite a mandatory order for his county.

Millions of Florida residents have been under evacuation orders ahead of Hurricane Milton’s expected landfall on the state’s west-central coast on Wednesday evening. The storm will then move to the east coast over the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday afternoon.

Dave Carol of Vilano Beach, St Johns County, has decided to stay put – despite the county being under a mandatory evacuation order.

“We are hurricane hunters!” Dave Carroll told Action News Jax.

“And being originally from Fort Lauderdale, we know that. It’s just Asheville, they’re not prepared for that. This area is prepared for it, and I think it will be. The most important thing is the flooding.”

He added: “Our house here has never been flooded and we are not in a flood zone.”
