TAMPA, Florida. – FOX 13 meteorologists are monitoring an area in the western Caribbean that could develop into a storm system over the next seven days.

The hurricane is expected to reach the Gulf of Mexico next week, but it is unclear where it will go next or how strong it will become.

According to the National Hurricane Center, there is a 40% chance of the hurricane system developing in the next seven days.

When will the system develop?

According to FOX 13 meteorologist Jim Weber, development will be slow and likely won’t occur until late next week and early next weekend.

The organized low pressure area can form within a larger vortex, a broad low pressure area that can fuel other low pressure areas.

There is currently a lot of instability, moisture and heat in that area, which means all the ingredients are there to fire up one of these systems.

Where is the storm?

According to Weber, a weaker system will likely move west and a stronger system will likely move east.

That’s not the only system meteorologists are looking at.

Gordon’s remains are still in the Atlantic Ocean. There is a chance that they will recover, but that chance is getting smaller and smaller.

Just west of what’s left of Gordon is another system that has a low chance of developing, but is expected to remain over open water.

Meteorologists say that whether or not there is a storm, it’s important to have a hurricane plan for the whole family, as September is typically the month with the most hurricanes.
