EXCLUSIVE: Angela Bassett is ready for another one MissionDeadline may reveal exclusively.

In Mission: Impossible 8 – now known as Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning — Bassett reprises her role as CIA Director Erika Sloane from 2018 Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

The plot of the new film, from Paramount Pictures and Skydance, remains secret. Most recently garnering multiple Oscar nominations and grossing over $567 million worldwide Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoningthe spy action franchise, of course, revolves around Tom Cruise’s Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt, who has embarked on various world journeys with his team to prevent a global disaster.

In addition to Cruise, the returning cast includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Vanessa Kirby, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell and Frederick Schmidt. Others make theirs Mission: Impossible debuting in the eighth episode include Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian and Stephen Oyoung.

Christopher McQuarrie has returned to direct from his own script and is producing alongside Cruise, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger and Chris Brock serving as executive producers. The film is scheduled for release on May 23, 2025.

Currently, Bassett stars as LAPD Patrol Sergeant Athena Grant on ABC’s 9-1-1which returned for its eighth season in September. On the film side, the honorary Oscar and Emmy winner was last seen starring opposite Millie Bobby Brown in the fantasy pic Ladythe most watched Netflix series in the first half of this year.

The actress is lending her voice to Laika’s upcoming animated film Wildwood and will soon also be seen with Robert De Niro in Netflix’s political thriller series Zero day.
