Barack Obama has a problem with the NBA All-Star Game and he told Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton about it.

“You’ve got to be a little more proud of that All-Star Game. That All-Star Game is ruined, man,” Obama told Haliburton, saying he wouldn’t watch it anymore.

Haliburton could only offer this in response: “Larry Bird came in there and gave a speech about taking it more seriously.”

“And it didn’t work,” Obama responded.

The 2024 All-Star Game was played in Indianapolis, with the East defeating the West 211-186 in a game with little real competition. Even NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was disappointed.

Haliburton interviewed Obama on the “Young Man and the Three” podcast. It’s the reimagined version of the “Old Man and the Three” pod previously hosted by JJ Redick, who now coaches the Los Angeles Lakers. Several NBA players will host in the future.

Haliburton and Obama spent much of the hour-long interview focusing on the conversation, mostly about basketball: Obama’s favorite players, the Olympics, playing pick-up games with NBA players, helping coach the NBA’s teams his daughter.

Obama said he enjoys watching the Pacers: “I like how the Pacers play. …The beautiful play, and the ball pops. You don’t walk backwards and dribble all the time.

But added a criticism: “You need to pick up that defense a little bit.”
