ROME (AP) — Marcus Thuram scored twice as defending champion Inter Milan beat Hellas Verona 5-0 to take the provisional lead in Serie A on Saturday.

Inter are two points ahead of Napoli, who host Roma on Sunday and have a chance to regain the lead. With a win over Parma, Atalanta could later level with Inter on points.

Inter missed the sick top striker Lautaro Martinez. But five goals in the first half made Lautaro’s absence a non-issue.

Joaquin Correa opened the scoring after 17 minutes, Thuram then scored twice before Stefan de Vrij and Yann Aurel Bisseck scored.

Correa almost scored another in second-half stoppage time, but his effort hit the woodwork.

Inter’s only defeat in all competitions this season was a derby defeat to AC Milan in September.

Milan later hosted Juventus.
