Apple opened pre-orders for the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro this morning . As usual, if you weren’t among the early buyers, you might want to make that purchasing decision soon. September 20 is the official release date , but the most popular models have now been pushed back to October. Here’s what you need to know.

Most Popular iPhone 16 Pre-Order Model

After a brief period of open pre-orders, it’s become a little clear which iPhone 16 models are the most sought-after, or at least least in stock. But Apple has been doing this long enough, and with the same mix of models, that availability is probably a good proxy for what’s actually selling the most.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is the model with the scarcest availability. There are currently no Pro Max models available, in any color or tier, for delivery on launch day.

The iPhone 16 Pro, meanwhile, is still available for delivery on September 20. However, it depends on the color and storage options you choose. 512GB models seem to be selling out the fastest.

If you’re looking for a base model iPhone 16 or 16 Plus, there’s still plenty of choice right now.

Most popular color options

The most ‘new’ color finish this year is desert titanium. But there is another color that is dominating sales so far.

Black titanium is the clear favorite among early iPhone 16 adopters.

As of this writing, the black titanium iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models are the hardest to come by. Nearly all of the various storage options have had shipping dates pushed back from launch day, with many saying October, and could soon be pushed back even further.

Overall, in terms of availability for sale, black titanium is followed by white titanium as the hardest to come by. Desert titanium is generally more available than either color. But that may be because Apple has been preparing more of those models in anticipation of them selling well. So it doesn’t necessarily reflect popularity.

If you’re in the market for an iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max, you’ll want to act fast before delivery dates slide further. There are a few launch day delivery options available for the smaller Pro, depending on your model configuration.

Unsurprisingly, the non-Pro models aren’t necessarily as appealing to pre-order early adopters. If you’re after an iPhone 16 or 16 Plus, you’ll still need to order quickly, but you can still get day 1 delivery for now.
