Is Austin Ekeler or Jeremy McNichols the better play in Week 6?

Alex Hunter breaks down the Commanders backfield as RB Brian Robinson Jr. is in week 6.

Missed training for the second consecutive day on Thursday, Robinson Jr. ($6,400) is leaning toward missing next Sunday’s game with the Ravens.

If that is ultimately the case, Ekeler ($5,600) And Jeremy McNichols ($4,500) will both see more work for the commanders, with Ekeler being the better option between the two.

Ekeler is ranked second behind Robinson Jr. this season. in terms of snap percentage among the Commanders’ backs at 42%, while McNichols has played just 19.5% of snaps. Ekeler and McNichols are close at 19-16 respectively, but most of McNichols’ work comes in garbage time, when Washington has blown away their opponent. For some perspective, the back has recorded eight and seven carries over the last two weeks, but both games were 20-plus point wins for the Commanders and 11 of those 15 carries for McNichols came in the second half of those games.

Ekeler should have the upper hand on rushes when Robinson sits — Ekeler is averaging a career-best 7.9 yards per carry this season — as well as the edge in the passing game. Ekeler has always been a crucial asset as a receiver throughout his career and this season has been no different. He has seen a goal on 20% of his routes this season, while McNichols has seen just one goal on his 18 routes.

Ekeler enters the second-highest Week 6 total at 51.5 points on the DraftKings Sportsbook and will bring a great ceiling when Robinson sits this Sunday, and he will be the clear choice between him and McNichols.
