Three-time Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams’ tenure with the Tennessee Titans didn’t last long.

Adams’ agents, Kevin Conner and Robert Brown, confirmed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the 29-year-old was released Thursday.

Schefter noted that Adams requested his release from the Titans, who are off to a 1-4 start this season.

The Titans signed Adams to a one-year deal at the veteran minimum salary of $1.125 million in July. He became a free agent in March when the Seattle Seahawks released him with two years left on the four-year, $70 million extension signed before the start of the 2021 season.

Adams told reporters after signing with the Titans that one of the reasons he was released by the Seahawks is because they asked him to move from safety to linebacker, which he didn’t want to do.

Injuries have derailed Adams after a great start to his career. He was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft by the New York Jets and was an immediate starter as a rookie. The LSU alum earned three consecutive Pro Bowl and All-Pro team selections from 2018 to ’20, including first-team honors in 2019.

The Jets traded Adams to the Seahawks before the 2020 season in exchange for a package that included two first-round draft picks.

Adams missed at least four games in each of his four seasons with the Seahawks. He played a total of ten games in his last two years at the club.

Given Adams’ ongoing injury concerns, it could be some time before he receives an offer from another club. He may also choose to be selective if he wants to wait for a playoff candidate who may need help in the secondary for the stretch run to give him a shot.
