Jayden Daniels Makes Monday Night Football Debut

Jayden Daniels is used to playing under the spotlight. Daniels began his career at Arizona State, where he started for three seasons before transferring to LSU for his final two seasons at the collegiate level.

During his time with the Tigers, Daniels has played in his fair share of big games. As a rookie with the Washington Commanders, Daniels has experienced a lot of firsts. Week 1 was his NFL debut. Week 2 was his home debut.

Now, in Week 3, Daniels will play his first career Monday Night Football game. The 1-1 Commanders are in Cincinnati to take on a desperate Bengals team looking to avoid an 0-3 start.

How does Daniels approach his first NFL primetime game?

“I mean, it’s special, obviously,” Daniels said. “Being able to play one coming off my first real game, the first home opener, now the first game on Monday night. So, it’s going to be special, but ultimately it’s just another game that you play later in the week.”

His opponent this week is someone Daniels has a lot in common with: Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Both are former record-setting LSU quarterbacks who won the Heisman Trophy after transferring to the Tigers and spending their final two years in Baton Rouge.

Burrow spoke about Daniels last week and is a fan.

Has Daniels spoken to Burrow recently?

“No, I haven’t talked to him lately,” Daniels said of Burrow. “I wish him nothing but the best with his success in Cincinnati, what he’s done so far, what he’s done for the state of Louisiana. So it’s big for the entire state of Louisiana to see both of us go head to head on Monday night.”

Washington won its first game last week, beating the Giants 21-18, while the Bengals suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Chiefs.
