Jerome Pineau: Armstrong was the epitome of arrogance

Lance Armstrong criticized Tadej Pogacar during the final week of the Tour de France for wanting to win almost every stage.

“I understand the arguments of ‘it’s a race’, but you’re also talking about a political campaign. You shouldn’t give other people a reason to hate you. I repeat: you shouldn’t give other people a reason to hate you, or not like you, or doubt you…” Armstrong said of Pogacar’s quest for stage wins in the Tour de France.

Former Quick-Step rider Jerome Pineau joined the debate and criticism of Armstrong’s comments, arguing that the American “did exactly the opposite” during his career in yellow.

“He stole seven editions of the Tour de France and lied to millions of people suffering from cancer,” said Armstrong, who has supported cancer patients for years through his foundation Livestrong.

“He was anything but humble; he was the epitome of arrogance. He has nothing to say and should keep his mouth shut. These are the advices of a man who did exactly the opposite.”
