Jerry Jones is optimistic about the Dallas Cowboys backfield entering the 2024 NFL season

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed optimism about the team’s running back situation after Dalvin Cook was recently added to the practice squad.

Along with Ezekiel Elliott and other options like Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis, who was also added to the practice squad earlier today, Jones is confident the Cowboys have the depth and flexibility needed to succeed next season.

“We’re in a great position to have flexibility here,” Jones noted. “Malik Davis back on the practice squad. Dalvin on the practice squad. We’re all excited about what Zeke can do for us.”

One area where Jones specifically emphasized the need for improvement was the red zone offense. The Cowboys struggled to get the ball into the end zone last season, and Jones believes the improved backfield will solve that problem.

“We needed to improve, especially in that red zone,” Jones said. “We needed to improve in that end zone with that running game. All of this reinforces that.”

Overall, Jones indicated he is pleased with the current state of the Cowboys’ running back room.

“I’m very pleased with where we’re at right now at running back,” Jones concluded.

With the addition of Cook, a four-time Pro Bowler, the Cowboys gain a proven playmaker who can contribute as both a runner and receiver.

With Elliott trying to bounce back after a down year and Cook looking to prove he’s still got what it takes, the Cowboys’ backfield promises to be one of the most intriguing stories of the season.
