Newman was hurt in the third quarter when Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was intercepted by Pittsburgh’s Beanie Bishop Jr., who returned 41 yards.

During the return, Newman was blocked and fell awkwardly. As he stayed down, Jets teammates surrounded him outside the court for several minutes.

The “Sunday Night Football” broadcast reported that Newman was conscious and had movement in his extremities while being restrained by a spinal cord before being evacuated and taken to a Pittsburgh hospital.
