Jon Stewart has extended his time as host on “The Daily Show” through December 2025.

In addition to hosting the Comedy Central show on Monday night, the veteran comedian will also remain executive producer of the program for the rest of the week while the other comedians rotate in guest chairs, the Paramount network announced Monday. The decision means the public can expect Stewart to continue to harass lawmakers as well as a future President Kamala Harris or Donald Trump with his sharp commentary and satire well into their first year in office.

“I really enjoyed working with the great team at ‘The Daily Show’ and Comedy Central again,” Stewart said in a statement. “I was really hoping they would let me do that every other Monday, but I’ll just have to suck it up.”

Paramount Global co-CEO and CEO and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios Chris McCarthy praised Stewart as “one of the most important voices in political and cultural commentary today.”

“His ability to cut through the noise and deliver clear insights is exactly what we need, which is why we are thrilled to have him lead ‘The Daily Show’ for another year,” McCarthy said in a statement.

In 2015, Stewart retired from “The Daily Show” after 16 years as host, and was followed by Trevor Noah, who hosted the show through 2022. The show struggled to find a permanent host after Noah’s departure, instead opting for a rotating lineup of comedians to lead the program.

Stewart’s first return to “The Daily Show,” announced in January, came as the show appeared to shore up poor ratings. The new hire has largely paid off, with Stewart’s return consistently delivering higher ratings than the show has seen in recent years. A longtime critic of former President Donald Trump, Stewart’s stewardship has benefited from the 2024 presidential election, giving the host ample material for his signature heated monologues.

In his short time back as host, Stewart has already taken home an Emmy in the Outstanding Talk Series category, a category he has won for ten years in a row, from 2003 to 2012. Upon accepting the award, Stewart noted that the victory ‘made an old impression’. person very happy.”

“This is remarkable, the opportunity to work with this incredibly talented group has really brightened my Mondays,” said Stewart.

After leaving in 2015, Stewart signed a deal with Apple, for whom he presented ‘The Problem with Jon Stewart’. The show’s brief two-season run was cut short in 2023 after Stewart became frustrated with the tech company’s increasing editorial oversight, including exerting control over the topics covered in the program.

Stewart’s return to Paramount Global marked a big win for the company as it looks to strengthen its streamer Paramount+.
